New roofs pit science against Mother Nature

With hurricane season fast approaching, Mother Nature might huff and puff but probably won't blow down the wind-taming roofs on a growing number of buildings throughout the area.
Since the major storms of 2004, many condos, municipal buildings, banks, restaurants and medical facilities have installed the 2001 Company's patented "wind-vented roof systems," which are guaranteed to remain in place and undamaged even after encountering winds of 150 mph.

Several Seminole schools getting unique roofs to withstand hurricane-force winds

The new roofs being installed at Lake Mary Elementary School and six other Seminole County schools will have a unique way of coping with hurricane-force winds.
No hurricane clips. No special fasteners. Instead, the roof membrane is sealed airtight and uses specially designed wind valves that can convert swirling winds created by a hurricane and keep the roof in place through suction.
